Launching a new feature on WhatsApp: sending short videos between users.

Meta has released numerous changes and improvements to WhatsApp, including the Channels feature we discussed in a previous article . The latest feature announced was the ability to send short videos in messages. This step is one of Meta's initiatives to improve the WhatsApp communication experience, and the first of its kind in a social media app.

WhatsApp launches a new feature: sending short videos.

The Short Video Sending feature is a new feature announced by WhatsApp that allows users to send short videos in chats, up to 60 seconds long. It's similar to voice messages, as users receive and send videos in a circular manner within the chat, with end-to-end encryption to maintain the privacy and confidentiality of the videos sent. Short videos can be sent by tapping the audio file send button once, which transforms the button into a video send button.

The feature was announced on Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg's account, where he said: "New to WhatsApp - We're adding the ability to instantly record and share a video message in your WhatsApp chats. It's as easy as sending a quick voice message, and this is a new feature in social media applications that solves many user problems, as users don't have to worry about internet speed or the need to record a full video.

A closer look at WhatsApp's short video sending feature

The short video sending feature is very similar to the voice messaging feature. All users have to do is update WhatsApp to the latest version, open a conversation, and tap the audio icon to convert it to a video. Tap it, record the video, and tap Send. The video is sent in a circular shape, and special effects and filters can be added, such as those for birthdays, personal occasions, and other occasions. The goal is to quickly share visual content between users, rather than conducting direct video calls.

This feature has some advantages, the most important of which are:

Duration: Users can record short videos of up to 60 seconds, but the duration may be adjustable to accommodate longer periods.

Speed: The company says the most important feature of this feature is its speed, allowing you to send a one-minute video in just a few seconds.

Encryption: All videos sent are subject to high encryption by WhatsApp to maintain the confidentiality of the sent videos and the privacy of users.

Play silently: Videos sent in a chat automatically play silently, without the user having to manually play them, unlike videos with audio. Users can also turn this feature off in the settings.

Do not download videos: These sent videos remain in the WhatsApp application only and are not downloaded to the gallery. This is to avoid confusion and mixing with personal videos, especially since most of them are short videos that do not exceed a minute.

Date of its arrival and availability to users

This feature was launched a while ago in a limited number of countries around the world and will reach the rest of the world by the end of this year. It was launched on both iOS and Android, and this addition is one of many features Meta has recently introduced, such as the Channels feature, the ability to edit sent messages within 15 minutes, and the Stories feature. This is in an effort to increase engagement and eliminate the fierce competition between WhatsApp and Telegram , especially since Telegram's popularity has increased in the past. WhatsApp may witness many other features that will be announced at a later time.
