Introducing the group message history feature: a more private way to catch up on what you missed in group chats

We are pleased to introduce the Group Message History feature, which makes group chats more welcoming and uninterrupted. Group admins and members can now choose to send recent messages to new members, allowing them to quickly catch up on what they missed.

This is one of the most requested features by users and another example of WhatsApp's leadership in group messaging, regardless of your device. The group message history feature remains end-to-end encrypted, just like all other personal messages, giving you a faster and more private way to continue conversations without the need for screenshots or unnecessary message forwarding.

When you add a new person to a group chat, you'll see an option to send them recent messages, ranging from 25 to a maximum of 100. This helps keep things simple, so new members only need to read the most recent and relevant messages, and all group members can easily see what's been shared.

Sending the message history is a required action, and administrators can disable this setting for their groups. Administrators will always be able to share the message history.
