A new feature allows you to hide your phone number on WhatsApp.. How?

WABetaInfo revealed that WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will allow you to completely hide your phone number in both individual and group chats, providing users with greater privacy.

This comes after a new addition appeared in the beta version of the app that allows for the creation of a username. The feature is expected to be launched in a future update to the messaging app.

Currently, users are allowed to search for other people by their phone numbers on the messaging app, but in the future, the app will rely on their username instead of their phone number to search for users .

The new beta version showed that the feature will be available by going to the profile page in the Settings menu, then accessing the app's profile, which will provide the option to set a username.

Many messaging apps like Telegram, or even Meta-owned apps like Messenger, allow you to identify your account with a username.

It's important to note that WhatsApp has not yet confirmed that it will add usernames. If it does introduce this feature, it's uncertain whether users will be able to hide their phone numbers and display only their usernames instead.
