Protecting the privacy of your messages remains the driving force behind the features we offer on WhatsApp. While end-to-end encryption is the foundation for the security of your calls and messages, WhatsApp continues to add more layers of privacy, including the recently launched Chat Lock feature to password-protect sensitive chats, disappearing messages that automatically delete, blocking screenshots of one-time messages, and the ability to control who can see your activity status.
Today, WhatsApp is pleased to add two new updates to this growing list: Silencing unknown callers and reviewing your privacy settings, which are now available to users.
The Unknown Caller Silence feature is designed to give you more privacy and control over your incoming calls. It helps block unwanted calls, scam calls, and calls from unknown people, increasing your security. These calls won't ring your phone, but they'll appear in your call list, so you can take action if the call comes from someone important to you.
This feature provides step-by-step guidance through important privacy settings to help you choose the level of protection that's right for you, all in one place. Selecting "Start Review" in your privacy settings will take you through multiple layers of privacy that enhance the security of your messages, calls, and personal information.
Securing your private communications is important because WhatsApp understands that people need a place to communicate safely. We're working to spread this message around the world in new ways to help make this important point known. Starting this week, we're encouraging people to communicate securely with each other via Direct Messages so friends and loved ones know they have a safe space to connect.
